Two students were critically injured after being hit by falling concrete debris from a condominium building in Quezon City on Tuesday afternoon, August 12, prompting a desperate plea from the mother of one victim for medical help to save her child.

According to the Quezon City Police District (QCPD), the accident occurred at around 4:39 p.m. at the corner of Roces and Timog Avenue, where three students were walking home from school.

Pieces of concrete reportedly fell from the building’s exterior, hitting two of the children on the head and injuring a third on the arm.

The victims were immediately rushed to the Capitol Medical Center. Doctors confirmed that the two sustained severe head injuries and remain under close medical observation, while the third is recovering from arm injuries.

Carla Baldonado, mother of one of the critically injured students, appealed for help in finding a specialist to treat her child. She said her child remained conscious and breathing after the incident.

The Quezon City government expressed concern for the victims and their families, assuring them of support through the Social Services and Development Department.

It also launched an investigation to determine liability and directed concerned offices to study possible legal actions against those responsible.

Authorities have yet to identify the building owner or disclose whether structural safety checks had been conducted prior to the incident. (Allysa Nievera)
