Business tycoon Ramon Ang has pledged to fund the clearing of Metro Manila’s rivers — including the relocation of homes and schools built over waterways — to help alleviate chronic flooding in the National Capital Region.

At a press conference with Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso, Ang said he is prepared to purchase land and finance the construction of new housing and school facilities for affected communities.

His offer aims to support long-term flood mitigation by restoring natural waterways and relocating structures that obstruct drainage.

The announcement follows weeks of heavy flooding caused by monsoon rains and tropical cyclones, underscoring the capital’s vulnerability to extreme weather.

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and several lawmakers have also renewed calls for a Metro Manila drainage master plan to address the recurring issue.
