In a rare show of humility, Paolo recently took to Instagram to publicly thank John Cabahug, current partner of his ex-wife Lian Paz, for helping raise his daughters Xonia and Xalene.
“Happy Birthday, John! I want to take this opportunity to thank you for allowing Lian and my kids nung araw na ‘to… I really waited for your birthday to publicly express my gratitude,” Paolo wrote, alongside photos of them spending time together.

He also took a moment to appreciate Lian, saying:
“You have always been kind and forgiving… I appreciate all your efforts in talking to John about that day. Thank you for how you nurtured the kids to have beautiful hearts.”
Paolo and Lian were married in 2009 and separated in 2012.
In 2021, Lian filed for annulment, only to withdraw the petition in March last year.
Since then, co-parenting has seemingly improved — at least enough for this reunion to happen.
The actor went on to promise better communication moving forward:
“John, I cannot thank you enough for this chance. I will not waste it. Please know that I am always here para sa inyong lahat.”
It was a rare sight — an ex, his former partner, her current partner, and the children they now collectively care for.
Still, some couldn’t help but raise eyebrows at the timing. The post comes shortly after Yen Santos, Paolo’s most recent partner, made headlines for calling someone “manipulative” and a complete “waste of time.” Many took it as a thinly veiled jab at Paolo.
Coincidence? Maybe.
Whatever the motive, one thing is clear: Paolo is trying — and that, in itself, is something. Sometimes, growth begins with a simple “thank you.”
