A former journalist was brutally hacked to death by his drinking companion in Rodriguez, Rizal on Wednesday, July 23 – a crime the suspect filmed using his cellphone while repeatedly apologizing and claiming he was the “legend of Wawa.”
The Rodriguez Municipal Police Station (MPS) identified the victim as Norberto Javier, a former broadsheet reporter who was serving as a barangay tanod in Barangay San Rafael.
According to the initial report, the victim and the 33-year-old suspect, Victor Enavia, had a drinking session at Sitio Wawa in Barangay San Rafael around 4:40 a.m.
When Javier dozed off on a chair, allegedly due to intoxication, Enavia set up a cellphone camera and repeatedly hacked the sleeping victim with a bolo.
Authorities later recovered the chilling footage from the suspect’s cellphone, which showed Enavia carefully positioning the camera before launching the attack.
Javier woke up and cried out, but Enavia continued attacking various parts of his body.
In the recording, Enavia was heard saying: “Sorry na… hindi ko ‘to sinasadya. Hindi ko sinasadya ‘to ah. Alamat ako ng buhay ng Wawa, tandaan n’yo.”
“Hindi ko alam ang ginawa ko. Pasensiya na ha, hindi ko alam ang ginagawa ko. Alamat ako ng Wawa, ito ang tandaan niyo. Tandaan n’yo iba ako, hindi ako ‘yung pipitsuging tao,” he added.
Police were alerted by a witness and responded quickly, finding Javier with multiple wounds. He was rushed to Ynares Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
Enavia was immediately arrested and is now in police custody.
Authorities are investigating the motive behind the killing. (Richielyn Canlas)
