Fifteen police officers have been placed under restrictive custody for their alleged involvement in the disappearance and execution of “sabungeros” or cockfight enthusiasts, Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin C. Remulla announced on Friday, July 4.

He said the police officers have been directed to report only to their designated offices.

Remulla disclosed that during the investigation of the cases, there were allegations that the policemen carried out the execution of the “sabungeros.”

He confirmed that the Department of Justice (DOJ) is moving toward filing charges against them, stating, “doon na papunta yan.”

He withheld the names and assignments of the officers pending further investigation.

The announcement came after Remulla met with the families of the missing sabungeros at the DOJ in Manila, assuring them that authorities are pursuing every lead to resolve the case.

Earlier, businessman and gaming tycoon Charlie “Atong” Ang and actress Gretchen Barretto were also named as suspects in the investigation. Both have denied the allegations. (Jeffrey Damicog)
