Islay Erika Bomogao has a return date to Lumpinee Stadium as her previously postponed bout has finally been rescheduled.
Bomogao finally gets to face Narea Rubio in a 102-pound Muay Thai bout set as the featured bout for ONE Friday Fights 111 on June 6 at Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.
This bout was originally scheduled at ONE Friday Fights 102 on March 28 but had to be postponed following an earthquake which rocked Myanmar and Thailand that was ultimately felt in the nation’s capital of Bangkok.
Now, the 24-year-old is out to pick up from where she left off following two impressive outings in ONE Championship in a three-month span from November last year to January this year.
Unlike most Filipinos competing in Lumpinee, the Team Bagsik representative has already secured herself a contract with ONE Championship – but don’t expect her to relax because of that.
Given the responsibility of being the country’s flag bearer in Muay Thai, Bomogao knows she has to be better each time she comes into the Lumpinee ring, knowing all eyes are on her in the country.
She’s also starting to be a household name in the world of Muay Thai, slowly getting more and more popular not only in the Philippines but in neighboring countries such as Thailand and Myanmar as well.
Third time’s hopefully the charm for Islay
Bomogao would want nothing more than to get a different outcome from her Filipino contemporaries who were also scheduled to fight with her at ONE Friday Fights 102.
Both Marwin Quirante and Jean Claude Saclag competed ahead of Bomogao when they faced, and lost to, different foes at ONE Friday Fights 109 last week.
Quirante lost to Torepchi Dongak via TKO while Saclag was submitted by Shazada Ataev, halting their respective two-fight winning streaks in the promotion.
It’s something that Bomogao would want to avoid especially if she aims to keep her momentum as one of the region’s fastest rising Muay Thai stars.
