A father was left in shock after the dump truck he was driving struck and ran over his 15-year-old son at the construction site of the old Pasig City Hall in Barangay San Nicolas, Pasig City, on Thursday, May 22.

According to an initial police investigation, the father was driving the dump truck within the construction area when he suddenly felt the rear tires hit something.

He stopped to check and, to his horror, discovered that the vehicle had run over his own son.

He immediately called for help from a co-worker, who alerted authorities.

Responders from the Pasig Emergency Unit (PEU) arrived at the scene, but the boy was later declared dead.

The father was taken into custody and brought to the Vehicle Traffic Investigation Unit (VTIU) for further investigation.

Meanwhile, the Pasig City government deployed emergency personnel to the site and pledged support for the victim’s family.

The Philippine National Police-Pasig City Police Station is investigating the incident, in coordination with the Pasig City Hall Construction Consortium (PCHCC).

The city government has likewise extended support to the ongoing probe.

“A mandatory review of the existing safety measures will be required from the PCHCC to ensure that an incident like this will not happen again,” it stated.

“Rest assured that this is taken seriously and that safety within the construction site remains of utmost priority,” it added. (Richielyn Canlas)
