Perpetual too much for SSC, boosts semis bid

University of Perpetual Help drew a stellar performance from Shaila Omipon and defeated San Sebastian College, 25-23, 27-30, 25-16, 25-21, to keep their semis hopes alive on Friday, May 16, in the NCAA Season 100 Volleyball Championships at the Emilio Aguinaldo College Sports and Cultural Center in Manila.

Omipon was almost unstoppable, coming through with 23 points off 21 kills, 2 aces and 14 digs in another show of force.

Coach Sandy Rieta also got significant numbers from rookie Geraldine Palacio, Winnie Bedana and Bustamante as they improved their record to 9-5.

Palacio finished with 15 points off 11 kills and four blocks while Bedana and Bustamante added 14 and 13 points, respectively.

Also credit Perpetual’s win to setter Fianne Ariola whose creative plays were translated to 25 excellent sets. She wound up with 6 points.

It was double celebrations for the Las Piñas-based school as the Altas pulled off a 25-19, 27-25, 25-23 win over the Stags for an 8-6 mark.

Jeff Marapoc led the way with 18 points 16 of which off attacks, 1 block and 1 service ace and 11 excellent receptions. Kobe Tabuga contributed 14 and  John Castil 11.
