Strange robbery at a Japanese restaurant in Makati City

In an unexpected turn of events, two men who robbed a Japanese restaurant on Pasay Road in Makati City, on Sunday, May 4, returned most of the stolen items – except for a wallet containing P25,000.

The incident went viral after CCTV footage of the robbery surfaced on social media Monday morning.

The video shows restaurant patrons enjoying their meals when two men with helmets, one of them wearing a motorcycle taxi uniform, entered the establishment, brandished their guns, and declared a hold-up.

The suspects took cash, wallets, and cellphones from the customers before initially leaving the scene. Moments later, however, they returned most of the stolen belongings, keeping only the wallet with P25,000, before making their final escape.

“This unexpected act has spurred an inquiry into the suspects’ underlying motive, as it deviates significantly from typical robbery scenarios. The NCRPO is actively collaborating with the victims, urging them to file formal complaints essential for building a solid case and ensuring accountability,” the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) said in a statement.

“We will dig deeper on this incident, abhorring speculation until the final findings are reached. We assure the public that this case is being handled with dispatch and careful assessment of facts,” it added.

No one was reported injured in the robbery.

Authorities are still investigating the incident as well as the identities of the suspects. (Patrick Garcia)
