ILOILO CITY – The Presidential Task Force on Media Security (PTFOMS) has announced the formation of a Special Investigation Task Group (SITG) to probe the recent murder of veteran journalist Juan “Johnny” Dayang in Aklan province.
PTFOMS Executive Director Undersecretary Jose Torres Jr. said the SITG would be led by the Aklan Police Provincial Office with a special prosecutor to be assigned by the Department of Justice (DOJ).
Police said a gunman entered the house of Dayang and shot him past 8 p.m. on April 29 while he was drinking tea and watching TV.
“Lahat ng angulo ay titingnan,” said Torres following his April 30 visit to the house of the 89-year-old Dayang in Kalibo where he was shot last April 29.
Torres said the SITG findings will be the basis of the PTFOMS report to President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.
The SITG Dayang is supervised by Aklan police chief Police Col. Arnel Ramos.
APPO spokesperson Police Capt. Aubrey Ayon said the SITG Dayang also includes Kalibo Municipal Police Station under Police Major Frensy Andrade.
Police Brig. Gen. Jack Wanky, Police Regional Office-6 chief, is also part of the team to ensure an airtight case. (Tara Yap)
