The Suwon KT Sonicboom showed grace under grinding pressure and escaped past the Daegu KOGAS Pegasus, 75-74, to stretch their winning streak to four in the Korean Basketball League (KBL) Tuesday, March 4.
Former UP star JD Cagulangan starred in Suwon’s big comeback, scattering 9 of 12 points in that crucial stage to erase a 59-54 deficit. His jumper after stringing up five points evened the score at 74-all before Moon Jeong-Hyeon made the winning charity.
The two-time UAAP champion also posted one rebound, one assist and two steals — all came in the final period — in more than 18 minutes of action to help lead Suwon to its fourth straight win that started last Feb. 26.
That splendid effort was Cagulangan’s fifth double-digit scoring output since his debut early this year, less than a month after leading the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons to their fourth overall crown in UAAP history.
It was also three points away from his high of 15 points which he achieved in a 76-74 loss to Daegu last January.
Also starring were Moon Seong-Gon (15), Rayshaun Hammonds (14), Jeong-Hyeon (14) and Heo Hoon (9), who also delivered in crunchtime to snap the Pegasus’ wire-to-wire victories.
Andrew Nicholson bannered Daegu with 18 points, while Kim Nak-Hyeon, Jeong Seong-Woo, and SJ Belangel added 13, 12, and 10 points, respectively.
Suwon hiked its win-loss record to 25-17 at fourth Daegu fell to 22-19.
