The University of Perpetual Help Altas Spikers recorded their third consecutive win after outlasting the Lyceum Pirates in five thrilling setsm 25-15, 25-16, 22-25, 21-25, 15-9, on Saturday, March 1, in the NCAA Men’s Volleyball Championship at the San Beda University Gym in Mendiola, Manila.
The Altas Spikers of coach Macky Carin̈o dominated the first two sets but wavered in the third and fourth before getting their offensive rhythm back in the deciding set to prevail.
Jeff Marapoc shone brightest for the Altas Spikers with 24 points and 12 excellent receptions while Kobe Brian Tabunga added 22 points as the Altas Spikers stayed on top of the standings.
Rookie Hezron Manoloto contributed 12 points, two of which were blocks while Klint Mateo produced 18 excellent sets.
In was another twin kill for UPH as the Lady Altas of coach Sandy Rieta also triumphed over the Lady Pirates, 25-22, 25-21, 25-17.
Leading the way for Perpetual was middle blocker Winnie Bedan̈a who recorded 17 points off 15 attacks and two in blocks. Shaila Omipon contributed 10 points.
Fifi Ariola recorded 21 excellent sets in 117 attempts, Marian Andal had 9 digs and 4 excellent receptions.
