The Changwon LG Sakers stretched their winning run to four games with a 74-62 win over the Seoul Samsung Thunders in the Korean Basketball League (KBL) Thursday, Feb. 27.
Despite having an almost two-week hiatus, the Sakers didn’t appear rusty, instead, they persevered to overcome a slow start – all thanks to red-hot shooting in the second half that saw them enjoy a 22-point spread at one point of the game.
Assem Marei led the way for Changwon with 14 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists, and 3 steals while Heo Il-Young and Jeong In-Deok added 12 and 11 points, respectively.
Returning on Korean soil after a tour of duty for Gilas Pilipinas, Carl Tamayo had a quiet 4-point, 4-rebound, and 2-assist showing for the Sakers, who climbed to second place with a 25-14 mark.
That halted Tamayo’s three straight double-digit output.
Lee Weon-Sook and former NBA player Glenn Robinson combined for 28 points while Fil-American Justin Gutang had eight points, two rebounds, two steals and one steal for Seoul.
The Thunders fell deeper in the standings with a 12-26 slate.
Meanwhile, Former Golden State frontcourt Omari Spellman and Fil-Am Ethan Alvano anchored the Wonju DB Promy past the Daegu KOGAS Pegasus, 89-80.
Spellman listed a game-high 24 points on top of 9 rebounds and 4 assists while Alvano delivered 20 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists and 2 steals in the team’s back-to-back victories.
Andrew Nicholson (23), SJ Belangel (14) and Kim Yun-Ji (11) spearheaded the Pegasus’ offensive end.
