Filipina gymnast Jhodelle Mallari Chavez shines in Italy

At just 12 years old, Jhodelle Mallari Chavez, a young Filipina artistic gymnast from Naples, Italy, continues to make waves in the sport! On February 1, 2025, she secured 1st place in the Individual Women’s Artistic Gymnastics A5 Category at the Regional Competition in Naples.

Born in Naples with roots from Lipa, Batangas, Jhodelle started gymnastics at 5 ½ years old after being discovered by Coach Monica degli Uberti, president of CAG Napoli. Her mother, Jonalyn Chavez, recalls the moment that changed their lives:

“We were on the metro going home when we noticed someone watching us. Then Coach Monica approached us and said she saw great potential in Jody for artistic gymnastics.”

With the unwavering support of her parents, Rodel and Jonalyn Chavez, Jhodelle has learned the importance of perseverance. What started as a hesitant step into the gym has now turned into a remarkable journey of championships and national-level competitions.

2021 – Gold A1 Regional Champion (Campania) & Top 10 in Italian National Semifinals
2022 – Gold A2 Regional Champion & Finalist in Italian National Competition
2023 – Gold A3 Regional Champion & Finalist in Italian National Competition
2024 – Gold A4 Regional Champion & Finalist in Italian National Competition
2025 – Gold A5 1st Place (Regional Competition)

Jhodelle is now preparing for her next big challenge on March 29, 2025, where she will compete in the 2nd Regional Competition to qualify for the Italian National Competition in May 2025—an event where she has reigned as champion for three consecutive years!
