SJ Belangel doing great in Korea, fires 6 triples to highlight a 36-point explosion

SJ Belangel is fast emerging as one of the most prolific scorers in the in the Korean Basketball League (KBL).

The former Ateneo guard produced jaw-dropping numbers in helping the Daegu Kogas Pegasus win back-to-back games over the weekend.

The 25-year-old Belangel highlighted the Pegasus’ wire-to-wire 114-77 triumph over the Seoul Samsung Thunders with a career-high 36 points off 6 three-pointers. He also had three rebounds, eight assists and three steals.

Belangel followed it up with another stellar output of 11 points, three rebounds, seven assists and two steals – big enough to give Daegu a 84-77 win over the Anyang KGC Red Boosters.

With their two consecutive wins, the Pegasus improved to 15-10 – good for third place in the 10-team standings.

That enabled them to soothe pain of an 88-81 loss to the Ulsan Hyundai Mobis Phoebus on New Year’s eve.

Last week, the former Gilas reached the 1,300-point mark in the Korean tournament, making him the 272nd cager to earn such a milestone. He will also take part, along with fellow Fil-American Ethan Alvano of Wonju DB Promy in the KBL All-Star Game later this month.

Meanwhile, Carl Tamayo delivered big for the Changwon LG Sakers against the Goyang Sono Skygunners, 67-64.

Tamayo, who ended up with 17 points, seven rebounds and three assists, drilled a timely basket with less than two minutes left, 65-62, to give the Sakers their 14th win against 12 losses at fifth.

On the other hand, the Skygunners, who fell to 9-17 slate at eight place, will later get the services of two-time UAAP MVP Kevin Quiambao.
