Regie “The Filipino Phenom” Suganob gave his veteran opponent a neat lesson on his way to securing a dominant win in the main event of “Kumong Bol-anon XII” on Saturday night, Nov. 4, at the packed Bohol Wisdom School Gymnasium
Suganob outclassed Venezuelan fighter Ronald Chacon, scoring a unanimous decision win that netted him the WBO Global junior flyweight title.
Two judges, Edward Ligas and Martino Redona, scored the bout at 119-108, while the third judge, Neil Papas, had it 120-107, with all scores favoring the PMI Bohol Boxing Stable stalwart.
It was Suganob’s first fight since losing in a world title fight against Sivenathi Nontshinga in South Africa last July 2.
Suganob improved to 14W-1L, 4KOs.
Suganob took control of the fight from the get go and highlighted his masterful performance with a knockdown in the fourth round. Suganob brought Chacon down to his knees with a right hook but the visiting fighter managed to survive the knockdown.
Suganob was the busy fighter since then, peppering Chacon with a flurry of body shots.
A clash of heads in the middle round resulted in a cut above Suganob’s left eye.
The cut hardly affected the 26-year-old fighter from Dauis, Bohol as he kept his foot on the gas pedal to complete the convincing win.
In the co-main feature, Cebuano boxer Christian Balunan copped the WBO Asia-Pacific miniflyweight belt by scoring a third-round knockout win over Thailand’s Adetip Maungcharoen.
Balunan of Consolacion, Cebu sealed the emphatic win with a right straight with only 43 seconds left in the third round.
Balunan improved to 9W-0L, 5KOs,while Maungcharoen dropped to 5W-1L,3KOs.
