CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga – A Nigerian man believed to be a member of an international drug syndicate was killed while some P13 million worth of shabu was seized during an anti-drugs operation in Tarlac on New Year’s Eve.
Tarlac police director Col. Reynante Cabico, joint operatives of Concepcion and Tarlac Police, Philippine Drug Enforcement (PDEA), PNP Drug Enforcement Group, and other law enforcement units conducted a buy-bust that turned into a shootout in a videoke bar in Barangay Jefmin, Concepcion, Tarlac.
The gunfight resulted in the death of Gabriel Onyechefula, a Nigerian national, and the seizure of three plastic bags containing around two kilos of shabu, a 9mm machine pistol, two pieces of genuine P1,000 bill and 14 bundles of boodle money.
Police Regional Office 3 director Brig. Gen. Valeriano de Leon, revealed that the slain suspect is a member of the West African Drug Syndicate (WADS) responsible for the proliferation of shabu and cocaine in the country. They also lure Filipinos to become drug mules.
“All police units are working closely together to stop the proliferation of illegal drugs not just in the region but the entire country and we appeal to everyone to continue helping us in our campaign against illegal drugs in order to make our country drug-free,” De Leon added. (Liezle Basa Inigo)
