ILOILO City — More than week after typhoon “Ursula” hit the country, world famous Boracay Island is slowly regaining its power supply.

“Only some parts of the island have electricity,” said Mayor Frolibar Bautista of Malay town, Aklan province.

To recall, Ursula’s strong winds knocked down electrical posts in Boracay and the rest of Aklan province.

In a phone interview, Bautista said only part of Manocmanoc village in the resort island has electricity.

The town mayor said the prolonged lack of regular power supply is affecting Boracay’s business climate as hotels, resorts, restaurants, and souvenir shops have to rely on power generators.

Since Christmas Day, Boracay’s local residents have to endure the dark nights without electricity.

Bautista is hopeful that  power distributor Aklan Electric Cooperative (AKELCO) can get all the manpower it needs to reenergize the entire island of Boracay.

Meanwhile, bank operations in the resort island resumed Thursday. (Tara Yap)
