More than 100,000 Filipinos have registered as overseas absentee voters from January to September, the Commission on Elections has said.

This brings their total to 1.5 million, the Comelec said.

“As of Sept. 30, 2017, we tallied a total number of registered overseas Filipino voters at 118,335 as approved by the Regional Election Registration Boards,” Comelec Commissioner Arthur Lim said.

“The total number of registered Filipino overseas voters as of the May 9, 2016 elections was 1,300,000 (rounded off).

So this figure of 118,335 newly approved new registrants brings the total at 1,418,335 registered overseas voters at Sept. 30, 2017,” he added.

The head of the Comelec Office for Overseas Voting said additional applications for registration are being readied for the next round of RERB hearings.
