ILOILO CITY – To curb killings and other criminal incidents in Iloilo City, there’s a proposal to ban riding-in-tandem around the city.

Before the long holiday, Iloilo City Councilor Plaridel Nava II filed a resolution to ban someone from riding a motorcycle other than its driver.

Nava claimed that several criminal incidents recorded by the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) are perpetrated by two men riding in a motorcycle.

Nava said that motorcycles are favorable to riding-in-tandem as it is fast and easier to maneuver than a car.

However, the proposed ban will have exemptions. Females, immediate family, relatives, and male below 18 years old are allowed as motorcycle passengers.

Proposed penalty for riding-in-tandem is P5,000 or a three-month imprisonment. (Tara Yap)
