Dismissed Bamban, Tarlac mayor Alice L. Guo, sentenced to life imprisonment for qualified human trafficking, is receiving no special treatment at the Correctional Institution for Women (CIW) in Mandaluyong City, the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) said.

BuCor’s statement came in response to reports alleging that Guo had been visited by Chinese-looking men and possibly received a mobile phone.

It emphasized that Guo, like all inmates, is subject to the same regulations and restrictions, with no privileges afforded to her or any other persons deprived of liberty.

Guo was transferred to CIW from the Pasig City jail following her conviction on Nov. 20.

On De. 5, co-accused Jaimielyn Santos Cruz and Rachelle Joan Malonzo Carreon were also moved to CIW.

They, along with five other accused — Walter Wong Rong, Wang Weili, Wuli Dong, Nong Ding Chang, and Lang Xu Po — were sentenced to life imprisonment and fined ₱2 million by Pasig City Regional Trial Court Judge Annilyn Medes-Cebelis.

CIW Chief Supt. Marjorie Ann Sanidad clarified that only Guo’s lawyers have been permitted to visit her, in line with established health and security protocols.

The BuCor said that from Dec. 6 to 9, lawyer Nicole D. Jamilla visited Guo and was accompanied by lawyer Romar Cambri on Dec. 8; and on Dec. 10, lawyers Marc Lester Mamuri and Cheska Mhey Dela Paz were Guo’s visitors.

“Personal cell phones are strictly prohibited in all prison facilities belying reports that Guo may have obtained a personal cellphone days after her detention,” it also said. (Jeffrey Damicog)
