A Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) maintenance worker was killed and another injured in a landslide in San Juan, Sta. Praxedes, Cagayan, on Friday morning, Nov. 28.

DPWH Regional Information Officer Wilzon Valdez confirmed that the fatality, identified as Enrico, was declared dead while his fellow worker Romeo sustained injuries.

The maintenance personnel were conducting continuous monitoring of major roads and bridges due to moderate to heavy rains when the landslide struck, burying the two victims.

One of their companions immediately called for rescue assistance from the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) of Sta. Praxedes.

The rescuers retrieved the victims.

According to the MDRRMO, the San Miguel (Tuaoen) Road remains passable but motorists are advised to take precautions due to falling rocks and mud as DPWH clearing operations continue.

Meanwhile, the San Juan (Boundary) Road is not passable to all types of vehicles, with clearing operations currently being carried out using heavy equipment from DPWH and the local government unit.
