A 21-year-old student died after crashing his motorcycle into the center island beneath the LRT-1 structure along Taft Avenue corner P. Ocampo Street in Malate, Manila, on Wednesday night, Oct. 30.
According to the Manila District Traffic Enforcement unit of the Manila Police District (MPD), CCTV footage showed the victim speeding on his way home before allegedly losing control and slamming into the island. He died on the spot.
Barangay 719 officials said the student may have swerved to avoid a pothole but failed to regain control due to his speed.
They urged motorists, especially riders and cyclists, to slow down when passing through the area, which is known to be accident-prone. (Patrick Garcia)
