Filipino-Chinese Veterans Basketball Association (FCVBA) consoled itself after a painful defeat to ZAAP of Bangkok on Thursday by clobbering Hat Yai of Thailand, 50-32, in the 70-years-old-and-above division of the 34th ASEAN Seniors Basketball Tournament on Friday, Sept. 19, in Tangerang City, Indonesia.

With redemption in mind after being dethroned by ZAAP, 37-35, the Fil-Chinese seniors immediately buckled down to serious business, taking to a commanding halftime lead which they gallantly protected to prevail.

Former national team player Ricky Poblete led FCVBA’s balanced assault with 16 points while Rain or Shine co-team owner and team godfatherT erry Que and former Chiang Kai Shek College star Eduard Tio had 10 points each in their best showing so far in the 6-day tournament.

FCVBA, also backed by Ironcon Builders big boss Jimi Lim, needs to beat ASABA of Indonesia, to finish runner-up in the five-team division.

ZAAP is already assured of the crown with a pristine 4-0 record.

Apart from 75-year-old Que, Lim, and Tio, other members of the team that had great success in the 50-and-above and 60-and-above divisions in the past, are James Chua, Achit Kaw, Secinando Santos, Julio Cruz and Danny Ching.
