Vice President Sara Duterte announced her intent to attend at least two more overseas rallies calling for the release of her father, former President Rodrigo Duterte, who remains detained at the International Criminal Court (ICC) facility in The Hague, Netherlands.

In a media interview in Davao City last week, she revealed that there will be a “Free Duterte Rally” in Kuwait on Aug. 8 and possibly another one in South Korea on July 28, though the South Korea schedule is still “on hold.”

The younger Duterte said she will try, as much as possible, to attend rallies abroad in support of her detained father.

“Sinusubukan namin. Nagdedepende kami sa invitation ng Filipino Community abroad. So, right now meron kaming naka-hold na Korea and merong confirmed na Kuwait sa August 8,” she said, noting that the South Korea schedule is still being finalized.

The official also explained how the expenses are being divided between her and the organizers, clarifying as well that no government funds were used in her personal trips.

“Sila nagbabayad ng events. Kasi oo, sa kanila ‘yung organization, event, coordination permits, lahat-lahat.

‘Yung travel ko, sa akin,” she said.

“‘Pag personal siya, no government funds are used,” Duterte stressed. (Raymund Antonio)
