Alas Pilipinas bared its fangs anew and overpowered reigning Korean V-League champions Hyundai Capital Skywalkers, 25-22, 22-25, 25-21, 25-20, in the three-day Invitationals on Wednesday night, June 11, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The Filipino spikers displayed grit and cohesion against their visiting rivals with skipper Marck Espejo leading the charge this time by pumping in 20 points on 17 kills, two aces and one block.
Still riding the crest of their four-set victory over Indonesia Proliga champion Jakarta Bhayangkara Presisi the other day, Alas head coach Angiolino Frigoni experimented with various lineup combinations that showed the team’s offensive strengths.
Rwenzmel Taguibolos fired eight of his nine points on attacks, even as Steven Rotter, Kennedy Batas and Leo Ordiales chipped in seven points apiece for Alas Men, who overshadowed the combined 32-point effort of Lee Seung Jun and Lee Jae Hyun for the Korean team.
The Alas Men next face Southeast Asian rival Thailand on Thursday, June 12.
