Resentment over being placed on unpaid leave was the motive behind a former tanod’s deadly shooting spree in Barangay Salitran 3, Dasmariñas City, Cavite on May 26, police said.
The 50-year-old suspect, identified as alias Ariel, approached the crowd during the flag-raising ceremony at the barangay hall and gunned down three barangay officials, including the village chairman. He also shot a Sangguniang Kabataan official, who was rushed to the hospital for medical treatment.
Following the attack, the suspect reportedly took his own life.
Dasmariñas Component City Police Station (CCPS) chief Col. Regino Oñate told the media that the suspect had been upset after being taken off active duty while undergoing treatment for diabetes. Barangay tanods, he noted, operate under a “no work, no pay” arrangement.
The police, meanwhile, reminded the public that posting videos or photos of tragedies, crimes, or accidents online without proper consent could have legal consequences.
