The Philippine weightlifting team ended its campaign without a gold medal as Kristel Macrohon collected three bronze medals in the 2025 Asian Weightlifting Championships in Jiangshan, China on Tuesday, May 13.
Macrohon posted a total lift of 236 kilos in the women’s 71kg class to finish behind eventual gold medalist Song Kuk Hyang of North Korea and Yang Qiuxia of China. Song outclassed the eight-player field with a lift of 276 kilos, while Yang registered 262 kilos.
Macrohon claimed her first bronze in the snatch after lifting 105 kilos on her third attempt, trailing Yang (122 kilos) and Song (121 kilos).
She stumbled on her first attempt of 127 kilos in clean & jerk, but managed to post 131 kilos to finish behind Song (155 kilos) and Yang (140 kilos).
The PH team finished its campaign with seven silver and three bronze medals. Rosegie Ramos collected three silver in the women’s 49kgs, Fernando Agad Jr. bagged one silver in men’s 55kgs, and another three silver from Olympian Elreen Ando in the women’s 64kg.
Overall, the country wound up at ninth place with host China topping the medal tally with 23 gold, 11 silver and 11 bronze medals, followed by North Korea with nine gold and three silver.
Southeast Asian rival Thailand is at third with three gold and three silver medals, followed by Indonesia (3-2-2), Iran (3-1-1), South Korea (2-6-8), Vietnam (2-3-5) and Chinese Taipei (0-8-5).
