Carl Tamayo and the Changwon LG Sakers continued their hot streak after escaping the Ulsan Hyundai Mobis Phoebus, 71-68, for their fifth consecutive win in the Korean Basketball League (KBL) over the weekend.
The 23-year-old Tamayo delivered 12 points and hauled 10 rebounds to post his third double-double output this season.
He stepped up in the last 3:17 of the game with a clutch layup to give the Sakers a 66-65 lead before Jeon Seong-Hyun drained a dagger trey to seal the deal.
Bryan Griffin chipped in 11 points, while Darryl Monroe added eight points and 12 rebounds.
Fellow Filipino cager Migs Oczon, meanwhile, had a silent two-point output along with two rebounds and one assist for Phoebus that saw Gaige Prim topscoring for 25 points.
Changwon improved to a 19-13 win-loss card to climb to third in the standings, while Ulsan remained at second with a 20-12 slate.
Changwon and Ulsan kept it close until the Sakers pulled away in the third canto with a 54-45 lead.
In the other game, SJ Belangel had six points, three rebounds, six assists and five steals as the Daegu KOGAS Pegasus routed the Goyang Sono Skygunners, 76-56.
With their win, the Pegasus improved to 18-13 at fourth, while the Kevin Quiambao-less Skygunners absorbed their 22nd defeat against 10 wins at ninth.
Meanwhile, Filipino-American Ethan Alvano’s stellar showing couldn’t rescue the Wonju DB Promy as they yielded to the Busan KCC Egis, 96-87.
Alvano chalked 15 points on top of four rebounds and four assists – day after his 32-point explosion in their 99-92 triumph over the Seoul Samsung Thunders – in a losing cause as the Promy skidded to their 17th loss against 16 victories at sixth spot.
