Gilas Pilipinas Women’s guard Vanessa De Jesus won’t be seeing action for the Duke Daredevils in the 2023-24 US NCAA I due to a knee injury, the school announced on Tuesday morning (Manila time), August 1.

De Jesus, 21, is coming off a stellar performance for the Gilas Women’s Basketball team in the FIBA Asia Cup where they finished 6th – the team’s highest since their fourth place finish in 1984.

The Filipino-American shared on her Instagram the injury she sustained from practice.

“A short time ago, I suffered a knee injury during practice that will keep me out for the upcoming season,” De Jesus wrote.

De Jesus had 66 appearances and started 18 times for the Daredevils, averaging 5.1 points and 2.0 per game with a career-high of 17 points.

The 5-foot-8 dribbler will also likely miss the Gilas Women’s stint in the upcoming William Jones Cup in Taiwan on August 5.

She registered 12.8 points, 3.2 assists and 1.8 rebounds per contest while playing for Gilas squad in the recently concluded Asian tilt alongside Jack Animam, Afril Bernardino, Ella Fajardo and Janine Pontejos.
