The Duterte government is determined to improve the quality of life of Filipinos, particularly reduce poverty and hunger in the country in the coming years.
According to Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles, the government has identified around 30 provinces where hunger alleviation efforts will be strengthened in line with the United Nations sustainable development goals.
Ending poverty and zero hunger are among the 17 global goals set by the United Nations for the year 2030. The agenda was discussed during Nograles’ meeting with members of the United Nations Country Team in Malacañang late last month.
“We covered a range of topics but we zeroed in on our goals that we could collaborate and work together on. On the government’s part, we fully emphasized the zero hunger program as a key to medium and long-term development,” Nograles said.
“We’ve set a lofty aim of reducing hunger by 25 percent every two-and-a-half-years and we have identified a little more than 30 provinces to focus on,” he said
Nograles said an executive order creating an inter-agency task force that will focus on eradicating hunger in the country by 2030 will be signed by President Duterte soon.
Under the proposed EO, the task force to be chaired by the Cabinet Secretary will be assigned to formulate a “national food policy” to attain zero hunger and eliminate poverty. (Genalyn Kabiling)
