BACOLOD CITY — A 57‑year‑old former overseas Filipino worker was gunned down inside his car while a fiesta was being celebrated in Barangay 1‑A, Manapla, Negros Occidental, on Sunday, Aug. 23.
Police identified the victim only as “Mauro,” a resident of Barangay 1‑A who owned a piggery business.
He was with his wife in the passenger seat when an unidentified gunman suddenly fired at the driver’s side of their vehicle amid the ongoing fiesta.
Mauro sustained a bullet wound to his left ear and was rushed to a hospital, where he was declared dead. His wife was unharmed.
Investigators said the assailant had been spotted earlier standing by the roadside, with a getaway motorcycle parked nearby and another person waiting.
Three fired bullets from an unknown firearm were recovered at the scene.
Police Capt. Marion Vincent Buenaflor, Manapla police chief, said the motive may be personal but withheld further details due to the sensitivity of the case. The investigation is ongoing.
