The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) confirmed on Thursday, Aug. 6, that it has formally received the United States government’s request for the extradition of detained religious leader Apollo Quiboloy.
In a brief statement, the DFA said the request has already been transmitted to the Department of Justice (DOJ), which is tasked with handling extradition proceedings under Philippine law.
“The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) confirms it has received the United States Government’s request for the extradition of Apollo Quiboloy,” the agency said, adding that the matter has been endorsed to the DOJ for evaluation.
No further details were provided on the contents of the request or the timeline for the process.
Under Philippine procedures, extradition requests coursed through diplomatic channels are referred by the DFA to the DOJ, which then determines the appropriate legal steps in line with treaty obligations and domestic law.
