A man was swept away by strong currents while crossing a spillway in Barangay San Rafael, Montalban, Rizal, on Thursday, Aug. 6, highlighting the dangers of attempting to pass through the area despite temporary restrictions.

CCTV footage captured two individuals trying to cross the spillway from Barangay San Isidro around 12:30 p.m.

One of them, identified as Eduardo, lost his balance midway, fell into the water, and was quickly carried downstream by the force of the current.

Barangay Captain Judith Cruz said barangay personnel, together with the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), immediately rescued Eduardo and rushed him to Ynares Hospital for treatment.

Following the incident, Barangay San Rafael reiterated its appeal for residents to strictly comply with the spillway closure.

Officials warned that even seemingly shallow waters can become deadly within seconds, especially during rainy weather.

“Huwag pong ipagsapalaran ang inyong buhay,” the barangay reminded.
