CAVITE – A woman was found dead on the Cavite-Laguna Expressway (CALAX) in Silang early morning on Sunday, Jan. 18, after being abandoned by her live-in partner following a motorcycle accident the previous night.
In a statement on Monday, Jan. 19, the Cavite Police Provincial Office (Cavite PPO) said the victim, identified by her child as alias Isa, was a 52-year-old maintenance worker residing in Naic.
A few hours after the discovery of the body, the victim’s 34-year-old live-in partner, alias Elias, surrendered to the Silang Municipal Police Station.
Alias Elias said he and the victim were riding a motorcycle along CALAX evening on Saturday, Jan. 17, when they accidentally hit a barrier, causing them to lose balance.
The victim sustained a head injury and lost consciousness.
The suspect said he tried to wake the victim, but to no avail.
Instead of seeking help, Elias admitted he fled the accident scene, leaving Isa on the roadside.
Hours later, a security guard patrolling the area found the victim dead.
“Dahil dito, lumalabas na inabandona ng suspek ang kanyang biktima, na naging sanhi ng tuluyang pagkamatay nito; kung agad sana itong dinala sa pagamutan, maaari pa sanang naagapan ang kanyang buhay,” the police said in a statement.
Alias Elias is facing charges for reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and abandonment of one’s victim, punishable under Article 275 of the Revised Penal Code.
Cavite PPO Director Col. Ariel R. Red reminded the public to immediately seek help from authorities in case of emergencies, as doing so can save lives. (Carla Bauto Deña)
