Carl Tamayo and Changwon’s hot streak finally ended as the LG Sakers bowed to the league leading Seoul SK Knights, 78-70, in the Korean Basketball League (KBL) Monday, Feb. 3.
The Knights erased a 20-7 deficit in the opening frame behind their offensive spurts before finally seizing the lead for good, 76-65, in the payoff period behind the timely baskets from Jameel Warney to break the Sakers’ seven-game winning stretch.
Warney did well on both ends, firing 25 points and grabbing 17 rebounds on top of six assists, one steal and one block while An Young-Jun and Kim Sun-Hyung added 18 and 15 points, respectively.
After big games the past three games, Tamayo was a picture of disappointment as he was double-teamed each time he touches the ball and was held to just seven points, four rebounds, one assist and one steal.
Assem Marei and Seong-Hyun Jeon topscored for Changwon with 19 each.
With the victory, the Knights cemented their hold of the lead with a 28-7 win-loss record while the Sakers stayed in third place with a 21-14 card.
