BACOLOD CITY — A six‑year‑old girl drowned after being swept into deeper waters off a beach resort in Barangay Gargato, Hinigaran, Negros Occidental, on Friday, Aug. 21.
Police said the victim had gone swimming with her older sister, another sibling, and two minor neighbors.
Upon reaching the seashore, the girl wandered close to the shoreline but accidentally moved toward a deeper portion where waves overpowered her.
Her companions tried to pull her back but failed. A policeman and beachgoers rushed to rescue her and immediately sought help from the town’s rescue team.
Despite efforts, she was declared dead upon arrival at the hospital.
