The Filipino-Chinese Veterans Basketball Association (FCVBA) completed its redemption tour in style by regaining its 70-years division title via a three-game sweep in the recent 35th ASEAN Seniors Basketball Tournament in Kuching, Malaysia.
Spearheaded by Danny Ching, Andrew Ongteco, former PBA star Elmer Reyes, and Rain or Shine co-team owner Terry Que, the FCVBA Bearcats avenged their last year defeat to ZAAP of Bangkok, 43-34, to clear the path for their return trip to the top.
The Bearcats, inspired by stellar games from Benjie Poblete and Aries Franco, then capped their dominant show with a 43-30 drubbing of the host team. They opened their campaign with a massive a 52-21 win over Hatyai of Thailand.
Ching took the MVP plum in their division for his strong performance throughout the tournament.
The other members of the Chingka Lee-mentored team – whose trip was bankrolled by Que, Jimi Lim of Ironcon Builders and Eduard Tio – were James Chua, Julio Cruz, Amang Santos, Med Sultan, and Achit Kaw.
Not fortunate enough was FCVBA’s 50-years division team, which failed to get past the elims.
