Bulacan Governor Daniel R. Fernando has pressed national authorities to explain the use of ₱41 billion in flood control allocations, questioning why the province remains submerged despite massive spending.
“Where did the ₱41 billion budget go? Why is Bulacan still flooded?” Fernando asked during a press conference at The Pavilion, Hiyas ng Bulacan Convention Center on Tuesday, Aug. 25.
He urged transparency and accountability, stressing that the public deserves answers on how the funds were spent.
Fernando said his call reflects the frustration of Bulakenyos who continue to suffer from widespread flooding, affecting farmers, workers, businesses, and communities.
He emphasized that the issue goes beyond viral clips of his interviews, pointing instead to the urgent need for systemic reform and real solutions.
Clarifying his earlier remarks, Fernando explained that his statement of “not knowing” referred to the absence of exact data on hand during a brief interview, not ignorance or indifference.
He stressed that the flood control projects are managed by national agencies, not the provincial government.
The governor reiterated his respect for the media’s role in accountability but urged responsible reporting.
“Public officials must be accountable, but the media must be accountable, too,” he said, calling for journalism that seeks the full truth rather than fleeting viral moments.
