The Southern Police District (SPD) said it will continue to monitor and validate reports of alleged drug dens in Taguig City.
This was in response to a media interview with National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Director Melvin Matibag, who said they had received intelligence reports about alleged drug dens and shabu laboratories in the city.
In a statement, the SPD said it acknowledges the recent reports regarding alleged drug dens and other illegal drug activities in Taguig.
The police district added that it respects intelligence gathered by other law enforcement agencies and recognizes the need to validate all reports on illegal drug activities through proper coordination and procedures.
It said that, through the Taguig police, any information on drug dens will be assessed and, when necessary, police operations will be conducted.
The SPD also said it is open to coordinating and sharing information with the NBI and other law enforcement agencies to ensure that reports on illegal drug activities are acted upon.
Meanwhile, the Taguig police issued a statement saying they “currently have no verified, recorded, or established drug dens within the city based on the information and records available to this Station.”
They added that reports and allegations about the existence of drug dens in Taguig should not be considered factual unless duly verified and supported by evidence.
On Aug. 16, the SPD reported that operatives from its District Drug Enforcement Unit dismantled an alleged drug den in Barangay Central Bicutan, Taguig.
During the buy‑bust operation, police arrested five suspects and confiscated 160 grams of shabu worth P1.08 million.
