JONES, Isabela — A man was hacked to death over a P900 debt while sleeping in a hammock in Barangay Sto. Domingo on Aug. 17, police said.
The victim, known only as “Jake” of Barangay San Vicente, had been drinking with “Mark” and other acquaintances earlier that day.
Police said the suspect demanded payment of the three‑year‑old debt, sparking an argument.
Jake reportedly agreed to pay but threatened to slap the money against the suspect’s face in front of their companions.
Later, while Jake slept at a friend’s house, the homeowner heard dogs barking and found him bloodied and lifeless as the suspect fled.
Authorities launched a hot‑pursuit operation and arrested the suspect for murder.
He was later released pending the regular filing of charges.
Police said the investigation is ongoing. (Freddie G. Lazaro)
