After a frightening health scare that landed her in the hospital, Heart Evangelista is embracing a new perspective on life—one that puts her well-being ahead of the pressure to constantly perform.

Now safely back home, the actress, fashion icon, and entrepreneur opened up about the experience in an emotional Instagram post, describing it as “one of my hardest wake-up call[s].”

“I don’t like romanticizing certain situations BUT it was one of my hardest wake-up call,” Heart wrote.

She went on to share the lesson she says she’ll carry with her moving forward.

“Health is wealth. Don’t work for the approval of others. Work for yourself. I am so done giving 200 percent just to please the ones who never liked you to begin with. I will work to make ME happy and for my own personal ‘purpose.'”

The heartfelt message struck a chord with fans, especially as Heart has long been known for juggling a demanding schedule that includes acting, fashion collaborations, business ventures, and international appearances.

Before reassuring everyone that she’s recovering well, Heart also had a message for the people closest to her.

“To my sweet angel who knows the story behind this situation… don’t worry it’s ok. Kidneys are happy again… sorry for crying.”

She likewise expressed deep gratitude to the doctors and nurses who cared for her throughout the ordeal.

“Thank you Lord, I’m home and out of the woods. To all the nurses and doctors who were so sweet to me, especially the ones who I could hardly speak to because of my situation, thank you for being so gentle.”

Despite the emotional experience, Heart’s signature sense of humor never left her.

In another Instagram post, she joked about treating herself to a luxurious Chanel bag after the scare, writing, “Mamatay pa ako!? Wait lang huy. At dahil dyan. I deserve this.”

Heart was hospitalized on June 26 after reportedly pushing herself too hard with work. Her longtime assistant, Resty Rossel, also reminded her that even the busiest people need time to rest, while calling out critics who, he said, fail to see how tirelessly she works behind the scenes.

Judging from her latest updates, however, Heart already appears to be easing back into work. But after what she describes as one of the biggest wake-up calls of her life, fans are hoping the star will continue to make her health a top priority.
