As the creative force behind some of Callalily’s most enduring hits—including “Magbalik,” “Pansamantala,” “Ex,” “Pasan,” and “Stars”— songwriter Lem Belaro has long proven that he has a gift for capturing emotion in melody and lyric.
Now, he is turning a new page.
Belaro has launched Route xYz, a fresh musical collaboration that brings together rising talents and seasoned songwriting in one ambitious project. The band—composed of Belaro, guitarist Hiro Ozaki, and vocalist Ivo Gatela—has just released its debut single, “Madama.”

For Belaro, however, Route xYz is more than just another band venture. It’s a continuation of something he’s been passionately pursuing for years: championing emerging musicians and giving them a platform to shine.
“I’ve been mentoring Hiro and Ivo for the longest time and I saw huge potential in them,” Belaro shared. “I just thought maybe putting something out that would highlight their talents would be a great start.”
That mentorship has become a defining part of Belaro’s career in recent years. Beyond writing songs and performing, he has built a reputation as a creative mentor and community builder in the Philippine music scene.

Belaro currently serves as official music mentor of Pocari Sweat Philippines, where he leads mentorship programs for students across universities in different cities. Through workshops, collaborations, and music camps, he helps aspiring artists navigate the often intimidating world of music creation and performance.
Among the artists he has helped develop is Dionela, now one of the notable rising voices in the Philippine music industry.
For Gatela, the chance to step into the spotlight with Route xYz is a dream years in the making.
“Matagal na akong nagta-try to make it in the music industry,” he said. “I’m really thankful that Kuya Lem has given me this chance.”
Ozaki shares that excitement—especially since Belaro’s songwriting has long been part of his own musical influences.

Born and raised in Japan, the guitarist grew up admiring Belaro’s work.
“I am a fan of his work with Callalily,” Ozaki said. “I’m thrilled and excited to work with him in Route xYz.”
Their debut single “Madama” offers listeners a glimpse into the band’s musical direction. The track carries echoes of the emotional storytelling that made Belaro’s earlier hits resonate with audiences, but it also ventures into new sonic territory.
The song blends the classic Callalily pop-rock sensibility with a cinematic orchestral sound, featuring sweeping strings, layered harmonies, and dynamic arrangements that heighten its emotional impact.
“Madama explores love that exists but cannot be felt,” Belaro explained. “Whether a farewell to lost love or a forbidden connection, every note and melody is crafted to convey longing, restraint, and emotional depth.”
Built on strong songwriting, melodic storytelling, and immersive live performances, Route xYz positions “Madama” as both an introduction and a declaration of the band’s artistic direction.
For Belaro, the journey with Route xYz feels less like starting over and more like discovering a new path, one that merges his passion for songwriting with his mission to elevate the next generation of artists.
He said, “You don’t go about writing hit songs; You write mainly to tell your story. The reward comes when it resonates with people, when it touches the hearts of many.”
