All 532 families displaced by the recent fire in Intramuros received ₱30,000 cash aid each through the National Housing Authority’s (NHA) Emergency Housing Assistance Program (EHAP), Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso announced.
The distribution, personally supervised by Domagoso and NHA officials at the Delpan Evacuation Center, aimed to provide immediate relief to victims of the blaze that struck the densely populated Maisan area on February 25.
The fire, allegedly triggered by a jealous husband, left two people dead, displaced hundreds of families, and caused an estimated ₱1.5 million in damage.
Domagoso expressed gratitude to President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and NHA General Manager Joeben Tai for their swift response, stressing that collaboration between local and national governments is vital during crises.
“Personally, I told them that the city government will continue to collaborate with the national government, whoever is in office. When local and national efforts unite, even across party lines, the real beneficiaries are the people,” the mayor said.
He emphasized that solidarity among government agencies significantly eases the burdens of affected residents, underscoring the importance of coordinated disaster response.
