MAUBAN, Quezon – A 44-year-old housewife was hacked in the neck with a sickle by her former husband during a heated dispute over their property on Wednesday afternoon, Jan. 21, in Barangay Liwayway, this town.
The victim, identified by police as Joy, died instantly while the suspect fled. Investigation revealed that Joy and the suspect, Al, 47, were discussing the partition of their house when the argument escalated.
Al then grabbed a sickle and attacked her.
Police later recovered the weapon at the back of the house.
Authorities said the couple had been separated for nearly a year.
Joy had previously filed a case of violence against women, and Al had just received a subpoena on Jan. 20.
After the incident, a relative of the victim received a call from Al’s sister, who said he was in Batangas City and willing to surrender.
Police proceeded to Batangas City to apprehend him. He now faces a murder charge. (Danny Estacio)
