Vice President Sara Duterte said she is anticipating an impending impeachment complaint against her, claiming that those behind it are motivated by financial gain.
“As expected, magiging katulad lang din ’yan noong nakaraan na ginagawang fundraising ng mga members of the House of Representatives ’yung pagpirma nila sa impeachment,” Duterte remarked in an interview on Monday, Jan. 19, while in The Hague.
“It’s all about the money diyan,” she added.
At present, no formal talks have been initiated regarding a new impeachment complaint against the Vice President. However, her political rivals and critics have previously suggested they might pursue one once the one-year ban on filing a fresh impeachment lapses.
In July 2025, the Supreme Court declared unconstitutional the impeachment complaint that the House of Representatives filed against Duterte in February on the basis that it violated the right to due process.
The High Court then said that any subsequent impeachment complaint may only be filed starting February 6, 2026.
Meanwhile, Duterte said she still has no comment on the impeachment complaint filed against President Marcos, her political ally-turned-enemy.
“Sa ngayon, wala pa. Antayin natin ang mga susunod na mga araw kung meron akong reaction,” she added. (Joseph Pedrajas)
