The Manila Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO) reported that 1,051 devotees were injured or required immediate medical attention during the ongoing Traslacion procession on Friday, January 9.

As of the 4:19 p.m. tally, the DRRMO responded to 21 major cases and 648 minor cases.

The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) attended to 517 devotees, while volunteers assisted 235, and DRRMO teams handled 299.

Officials warned that the number of injuries is likely to rise as the andas—the carriage bearing the image of the Black Nazarene—approaches San Sebastian Church for the traditional Dungaw, a historic ritual observed between San Sebastian Basilica and Quiapo Church.

By 5:54 p.m., the procession had stalled along Arlegui Street as throngs of devotees pressed forward to reach the revered image of Jesus Nazareno. (Patrick Garcia)
