Philippine National Police (PNP) acting chief, Police Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio C. Nartatez, Jr., has directed a comprehensive investigation into the killing of a woman whose body was discovered inside a storage box.

The cadaver was already identified while the suspect, her live-in partner, already surrendered to the police but Nartatez wants to have an airtight case against the perpetrator.

“We express our sincerest condolences to the family of the victim. No person deserves to be treated this way and we in the Philippine National Police commit to ensuring that the person involved is held accountable for this gruesome crime,” said Nartatez.

“My directive to the Camarines Norte Police is to ensure that the suspect is safely transferred to the proper detention facility, and to continue to protect the witnesses and the victim’s family,” he added.

The victim’s body was discovered on January 2 inside a black storage box, wrapped in a blanket, beneath the Pinagwarasan Bridge in Basud, Camarines Norte.

Investigators have yet to determine the motive behind the killing, but Nartatez assured the public that several leads are already being looked into.

The PNP also called on the public to cooperate with law enforcement authorities and to refrain from spreading unverified information that may hinder the investigation. (Aaron Recuenco)
