Yulo finishes 8th in all-around final

Karl Eldrew Yulo showed a lot of promise after finishing eighth in the individual all-around final of the 3rd FIG Artistic Gymnastics Junior World Championships at the Newport World Resorts in Pasay City on Saturday, Nov. 22.

The 17-year-old Yulo scored 78.731 points in all six apparatus, finishing behind top qualifier and eventual gold medalist Russian Arsenii Dukhno (82.031), silver winner Mao Ojima of Japan (81.799), and bronze medalist Yang Lanbin (81.099) of China.

The Filipino standout leaned on his performances in the floor exercise, where he scored 14.300 for second place, and in pommel horse, where he managed 13.000 for ninth.

He finished with 13.066 for 10th in horizontal bar, 13.466 for 14th in vault, 12.833 for 14th in parallel bars, and 12.066 for 17th in still rings.

It was a big jump after finishing 15th in the qualifications last Thursday, Nov. 20.

He is scheduled to compete for medals in the floor exercise, vault, horizontal bar on Sunday, Nov. 23, and Monday, Nov. 24.

Meanwhile, Dukhno lorded it over and topped the floor exercise (14.500), pommel horse (13.866) and parallel bars (14.266) while finishing second in vault (14.233) to boost his win.

Ojima, for his part, had Top 3 finishes in pommel horse (13.533), still rings (13.200) and parallel bars (14.100) to jump from third in the qualifications to second in the final.
