Super Spikers turn back Cool Smashers in five sets

Cignal rose from a 1-2 set deficit and turned back fancied Creamline, 25-18, 20-25, 22-25, 25-16, 15-11, to finish tied for fourth in the Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference at the Ynares Center in Montalban on Tuesday, Nov. 18.

The Super Spikers drew strength from Katrin Trebichavska, who dropped an all-around game of 15 kills, three blocks and two aces to finish with 20 points.

It was Cignal’s third straight win, finishing the eliminations with a 5-3 record in tie with Creamline at fourth place. Their final seeding in the quarterfinals will be determined after Thursday’s matches.

Vanie Gandler also fueled the Super Spikers, coming off the bench in the second set and pouring all her 15 points on attacks, while Roselyn Doria contributed 12 points including five blocks.

Cignal managed to weaken Creamline’s powerful offense, managing 11 blocks and making 65 excellent digs — 28 from libero Dawn Catindig.

Gel Cayuna also spelled the difference for the Super Spikers, delivering 28 of the team’s 32 excellent sets with the team firing 67 total attacks.

Coco Schwan was the lone double-digit scorer for Creamline with 25 points, with Tots Carlos and Alyssa Valdez posting nine points apiece.
